About Indian Turmeric
Turmeric β known as haldi in India and Curcuma longa botanically β has been cultivated and traded from India for over 4,000 years, once called "Indian saffron" for its vivid colour. India remains the world's largest producer, consumer, and exporter of turmeric, accounting for over 75% of global production. In January 2025, the Government of India established the National Turmeric Board, targeting USD 1 billion in turmeric exports by 2030 β a clear signal of the category's growing strategic importance.
Nexus Global Exim sources turmeric from India's most recognised growing belts β Erode in Tamil Nadu (GI-tagged in 2019, celebrated as the "Turmeric City of India") and Sangli in Maharashtra (GI-tagged in 2018, one of the country's largest turmeric trading hubs). We also supply high-curcumin varieties such as Nizamabad (Telangana) and Lakadong (Meghalaya) for buyers in the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical space who need curcumin content above standard commercial grades.
Every export lot is tested by HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) β the accepted industry method for verifying exact curcumin percentage β along with moisture, ash content, and microbial safety. We also test to confirm the product is free from illegal adulterants such as lead chromate, a toxic dye occasionally used to enhance colour, which remains a serious quality and safety concern in the global turmeric trade.
