About Indian Black Pepper
Black pepper β often called the "King of Spices" β is the dried, unripe fruit (peppercorn) of the Piper nigrum vine. India's Malabar Coast in Kerala is one of the spice's original homelands, and pepper trade from this region drove much of early global maritime exploration, including Vasco da Gama's voyage to India.
Nexus Global Exim sources black pepper from the Malabar region of Kerala, including the Wayanad growing belt. Our standard export grade is Malabar Garbled (MG1) β the industry workhorse known for consistent quality and sharp, biting heat, suited to large-scale industrial use, spice blending, and foodservice. For buyers seeking a premium presentation grade, we supply Tellicherry pepper (TGEB/TGSEB) β large berries left to fully ripen on the vine before harvest, prized for their bolder, more complex, slightly citrus-tinged flavour.
Every export lot is tested at NABL-accredited labs for piperine content, moisture, and microbial levels, with increasing use of steam sterilisation to meet EU and US microbiological requirements. Bulk density β measured in grams per litre β is the key trade indicator of quality: a higher density (550 g/l or above) signals fully matured, well-developed peppercorns.
